PRESENTE INTERNO
EUGENIA DIAZ + JACINTA YELLAND

Picture
"We miss so much of life while we are part of it. We fail to see ninety-nine percent of the glories of nature, for to do so would require vision that is simultaneously telescopic and microscopic."
- Amy Tan, Saving Fish From Drowning

PRESENTE INTERNO, created and performed by Eugenia Diaz (MEX) and Jacinta Yelland (AUS), is a one-on-one performance that invites the audience to enter the present and observe the details of their lives that are overshadowed by our fast-paced and oversaturated world.

A hollow television on wheels is positioned in front of a chair in Alameda Central, Mexico City. A passer-by is invited to sit and view the show through the frame of the TV. They are asked to choose a theme from the following list; reflection, gift, uncertainty, freedom, mirror, mutation. The performers present a 10 minute vignette-like show that explores the chosen theme by highlighting specific micro and macro details of our world and the human experience that are hidden in plain sight - the scent of a native flower, a song made from found sounds, a video capturing hair dancing in the wind, a movement sequence driven by uninhibited impulses, a mirror reflecting the image of the spectator.

PRESENTE INTERNO is a visceral and raw journey of recognizing, embodying and  sharing the present in our contemporary world.

This project has received financial support from Network of Ensemble Theatres.
