WASTED

CONNOR HOGAN & JACINTA YELLAND in collaboration with WORLD PACKAGING ORGANISATION

In response to the global waste epidemic Connor and I created WastEd, an immersive performance installation swamped with non-biodegradable food packaging that exposes the ramifications of our current food consumption habits and single use packaging. The installation, currently in development, is endorsed by World Packaging Organisation and will be presented at Pack Expo events in 2020.

WastEd was conceived by Connor Hogan and Jacinta Yelland
at Pig Iron School For Advanced Theatre Training.

The Hemispheric Institute's 11th Encuentro - Mexico City

Connor and I participated in The Hemispheric Institute’s 11th Encuentro in Mexico City from June 9 - 15, 2019. Encuentro is a unique amalgam of performance festival and academic conference. This biennial event creates space for creative inquiry and critical practice between scholars, activists and artists with the aim of creating new avenues for collaboration and political action. Attendance includes participation in lectures, performances, discussions and workshops that explore the Encuentro theme The World Inside Out: Humor, Noise, & Performance. I joined the group “Being Porous: Performing with(in) Climate Chaos” to experiment with the role humor can play in addressing our climate crisis. As a Work Group participant, I presented WastEd to the group be used as a launching point for group discussion, reflection and collaboration.

Many thanks to Australia Council for the Arts for funding this project by awarding me a Career Development Grant to attend Encuentro.
